Date syrup wholesale is a different purchase from a retail bottle: it is bought on Brix, pack format, documentation and consistency from lot to lot. This guide is written for the buyer — the specifications to put in your purchasing document, the pack formats that suit your line, the labelling questions for the USA and Canada, and how to compare suppliers on the same terms.
What Is Wholesale Date Syrup?
Date syrup wholesale means buying the syrup as an ingredient, in industrial formats — pails, drums, bag-in-box and totes — rather than as a retail bottle. It is the same product that is sold in shops, a concentrated liquid made by extracting the sugars from whole dates, but it is specified, packed and documented for production lines.
In the trade it also goes by date molasses, silan, dibs and date nectar. For a buyer the name matters less than three things: the Brix at which it is supplied, the pack format that suits your dosing equipment, and the documents that arrive with each lot.
A bottle and a drum are not the same purchase. A bottle is sold on flavour and branding. A drum is bought on specification, consistency from lot to lot, and paperwork.
Our syrup is made from dates and water only, concentrated to a standard of approximately 70 Brix in our BRC- and IFS-certified plant in Tunisia. For what date syrup is and how it is made, see our guide to organic date syrup; this page is about buying it in bulk.
Specifications Formulators Ask For
| Parameter | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Ingredients | 100% organic dates (dates and water) |
| Brix | Approx. 70 (other targets on request) |
| Colour | Deep amber to dark brown |
| Consistency | Thick; pours like honey at ambient temperature |
| Flavour | Caramel notes with a rich, fruity depth |
| Certifications | USDA Organic, BRC, IFS Food, Halal, Kosher |
| Shelf life | 24 months unopened, ambient |
| Documents per lot | Certificate of analysis, organic transaction certificate, specification sheet |
| Minimum order | From 200 kg; FCL and LCL to the USA and Canada |
Put these four things in your specification
- Brix target — it sets viscosity and how much fruit sugar you get per kilogram
- Pack format and dosing method — pail, drum, bag-in-box or tote, and how your line draws it
- Certification — organic or not, and the documents your auditor expects
- Labelling route — bulk only, or private-label retail bottles
A note on handling: sugar crystallisation over time is normal in date syrup and reverses with gentle warming. Avoid prolonged high heat, which darkens the colour and changes the flavour.
Pack Formats: From Pails to IBC Totes
| Format | Best suited to |
|---|---|
| 5 kg pails | Pilot batches, development work and small production runs |
| 25 kg drums | Regular production in bakeries and food plants |
| Aseptic bag-in-box | Hygienic dosing and lines that need a sealed, clean draw-off |
| IBC totes | High-volume and continuous lines |
| Retail bottles | Branded and private-label retail products |
Private label is available, including artwork and retail-ready formats. Tell us how your line is fed and we will recommend the format; viscosity is the practical constraint, so a pump-and-warm set-up often decides between a drum and a tote.

Request a QuoteWhere Date Syrup Is Used in Manufacturing
Date syrup is a liquid sweetener that disperses fully, which is what separates it from dry date ingredients. Typical industrial uses:
| Application | What it does | Formulation note |
|---|---|---|
| Bakery — glazes, fillings, breads | Sweetens, adds colour and moisture retention | Browns faster than sucrose; adjust bake time |
| Cereal, granola, bars | Binder and sweetener | Use at pouring temperature; it sets as it cools |
| Beverages — smoothies, plant-based drinks, coffee and tea | Sweetener that dissolves readily | Disperses fully, unlike date sugar or powder |
| Sauces, dressings, marinades | Sweetness and gloss | Works with acidic and savoury bases |
| Dairy and plant-based desserts | Sweetener and flavour ribbon | Adds caramel notes; expect an amber to brown colour |
| Confectionery and coatings | Sweetener and binder | Check against your water-activity targets |
If you need a solid or thicker form instead, see our organic date paste for binding and our organic date powder and sugar for dry blends.
Labelling and Compliance Notes for the USA and Canada
Labelling and import rules are set by your regulators and your own legal team. The points below are the questions to ask, not legal advice.
- USA — added sugars. Under FDA labelling rules, sugars from syrups used as sweeteners generally count as added sugars on the Nutrition Facts panel. Date syrup is not exempt simply because it comes from fruit.
- Organic claims. A finished product that uses organic date syrup can make organic claims only within the USDA National Organic Program rules; confirm the organic percentage with your certifier.
- Canada — bilingual labelling. Prepackaged foods sold in Canada generally need mandatory information in both English and French. Confirm the details with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
- Importing. For US imports, FDA prior notice and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program apply to the importer. Canadian importers generally need a Safe Food for Canadians licence before the goods arrive.
How to Compare Wholesale Date Syrup Suppliers
Most wholesale date syrup suppliers publish a product page and little else. To compare them properly, ask every supplier for the same eight things:
- The Brix, stated as a number — not “thick” or “premium”.
- The ingredient declaration — dates and water only, or anything added?
- Current certificates — organic, food safety (BRC or IFS), Halal and Kosher, and who issued them.
- A certificate of analysis for the lot — moisture, microbiology, and heavy metals on request.
- Pack formats and minimums — pail, drum, bag-in-box or tote, and the smallest order.
- Origin and traceability — can the lot be traced back to where the dates were grown?
- Delivery terms — which Incoterm the quote assumes, and where the goods are when you take ownership.
- Lead time and shelf life — stock or made to order, and how long it keeps.
What Affects Pricing and Minimums
Date syrup is quoted against a specification, so there is no single price per kilogram. What moves it:
- Brix — a more concentrated syrup contains more fruit sugar per kilogram
- Organic status — certification, segregation and allocated volumes carry a premium
- Pack format — a drum or tote costs less per kilogram than small pails or bottles
- Volume — minimums start from 200 kg, and the larger the programme, the better the unit price
- Delivery terms — our overall conditions of sale state that, unless the invoice says otherwise, merchandise is sold EXW New Jersey warehouse; other terms are available on request
Our guide to wholesale dates prices explains how to compare quotes across terms and formats. The delivery terms are set out in our overall conditions of sale.
Shipping and Storage
Unopened, date syrup keeps for 24 months at ambient temperature with no preservatives, so it travels and stores without refrigeration. Keep containers sealed and away from heat. Once a container is opened, close it after use; refrigeration is not required, but it slows natural darkening.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Shipping | FCL and LCL to the USA and Canada |
| Storage | Ambient, sealed, away from heat |
| Pallets | Standard and euro, shrink-wrapped and corner-protected |
| Private label | Artwork, barcodes and retail-ready cases to your spec |
Full packaging options across the range are detailed on our packaging page.
Certifications and Documentation
Every lot of date syrup ships with the paperwork your quality and compliance teams need — as standard, not on request.
- Certificate of analysis per production lot: Brix, moisture, microbiological results, heavy metals on request
- USDA Organic transaction certificate on every organic lot
- Halal and Kosher certificates issued per shipment
- BRC and IFS Food certification at the processing plant, audited annually
- Full lot traceability back to the plantation
See our quality and certifications overview for the detail behind each of these.
